Does Your Mailbox Bring You Joy?

We love to check the mailbox ~ it’s a highlight for all in our home! Every Monday during the school year, my children and I write letters to friends and family members, favorite authors, and greatly missed neighbors. Our envelopes are heavily decorated with washi tape and stamps, which brings a twinkle to my eye. (My children love sharing their joy with others!)

Sometimes the envelope’s contents include a lot of art with just a little handwriting. Other times, it’s pages and pages of thoughts and silly stories, a collection of letters gathered together, with encouragement sprinkled on every page. We LOVE sending mail to friends.

It’s true: a word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.

And while we love feeding the mailbox and pushing up the red flag on the side, we also love receiving from our mailbox.

Does your mailbox bring you JOY?

There’s something so special about seeing a colorful envelope, or noticing an envelope covered with stickers or rubber stamps ~ a preview of the fun inside :)

I long to receive a note in the mail that allows me to pause what I’m doing and catch up with a dear friend. I love to notice the handwriting on the envelope and know who it’s from โ€“ without even seeing the return address. Setting aside time to read something on real paper, not a digital note, is really, really heartwarming.

When my day ends with tired shoulders from carrying my toddler, sore feet from my kitchen work, a mouth empty of words as I’ve spoken encouragement over my family, lessons taught, and laughs experienced, it’s so very sweet to sit down at the end of my day to read a letter from a friend.

When is the last time you received in the mail…

  • Something you looked forward to opening
  • A handwritten update from a long-cherished friend
  • A memorable piece of art
  • Pages of encouragement
  • A text worth meditating on
  • A collection of journaling prompts
  • A reminder of your beautiful worth
  • Your favorite monthly subscription

What if we brought back the fun of sending a long-form letter to a dear friend? The joy of anticipation as the mail truck slows down and fills that little metal box with something worth reading is certainly worth experiencing.

Let’s bring back the abundance brought forth from a letter aptly received in the mail.

Doesn’t that sound like exactly what’s needed to stop scrolling the Internet and begin savoring this precious life we’ve been given?

I think so :)

And if you agree with the joy received from checking the mailbox, stay tuned!

xx, Maggie
