Win FOUR watercolor prints from Jane Heinrichs Illustrations

Hi Gussy Sews readers! I’m Jane, and welcome to my world! Iรขโ‚ฌโ„ขm the one who wields the paintbrushes and pens to make all the beautiful prints stocked in my online shop, Jane Heinrichs Illustrations. I also share my journey at my blog, which is filled with behind-the-scenes peaks in my studio, travel and love. My world is filled with laughter and whimsy, imagination and innocence, warmth and adventure. I sure hope youรขโ‚ฌโ„ขll pop over and say hi!

I’m a children’s book illustrator currently based in Cape Town, South Africa. However, I started my adventures in Canada (Winnipeg) and then England, where I studied fine arts and illustrated many weird and wonderful things. No adventure is complete without a handsome prince… I met my husband in London, and then moved to Cape Town with him to continue the adventure in Africa just over two years ago. And what fun it has been!

And, all through these adventures, I’ve been inspired to draw what I see. Have I seen elephants flying? May not in “real” life, but it isn’t impossible, is it? Nothing is impossible, especially in the world of the imagination. That’s what I want children to believe when they see my prints.

Each print is first painted in watercolour, then scanned professionally and printed on Somerset Velvet archival paper. The prints are as beautiful as the original paintings. Children deserve beautiful fine art, and they deserve to believe that the world is a wonderful, magical place. Don’t you think?

Although Iรขโ‚ฌโ„ขve worked as an illustrator for 10 years, Iรขโ‚ฌโ„ขve only been selling my prints online since January of this year. Itรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs an exciting journey, and Iรขโ‚ฌโ„ขm learning so much. I think the most important thing Iรขโ‚ฌโ„ขve realized is to never give up, and to keep sharing what youรขโ‚ฌโ„ขre doing with the world. People might be interested, but they wonรขโ‚ฌโ„ขt know about you if you donรขโ‚ฌโ„ขt talk about it. Donรขโ‚ฌโ„ขt keep the light of your inspiration hidden!

One of the things Iรขโ‚ฌโ„ขm most proud of is the childrenรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs picture book I wrote and illustrated called รขโ‚ฌล“Magic at the Museum.รขโ‚ฌย It was the first childrenรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs book Iรขโ‚ฌโ„ขd ever worked on and it was short-listed for an illustration award in Canada! But, Iรขโ‚ฌโ„ขm also proud of the fact that no matter what happened, or how many rejections I received, I kept going and never stopped pursuing my dream of becoming an illustrator.

I’m so excited to grow my little online shop. I’m adding several new prints each month, and will include other paper goods and pdf printables. All printed items are shipped via recorded delivery from Cape Town with one of the world’s most reliable postal services.
