{Seven scenes from setting up our new home.}

If you haven’t heard, Zack + I moved to Los Angeles a couple of weeks ago. It’s been a dream of our family to live IN the film industry city and when the end of our lease in Minneapolis was nearing we acted quickly to get moved out here the end of August. When we moved we packed our Jeep, a rooftop cargo carrier and a trailer hitch thingy with plastic storage tubs. And Bauer, of course. But that’s it. We had a couple of big boxes sent to a friend nearby, but for the most part we packed our things with us in the Jeep.

I can’t quite relay how amazing it felt to sit down those first two days of our drive out to LA, ha! We had been working so hard at getting our home + the business ready to move cross-country that we hardly rested. Of course Zack did all the heavy lifting and my focus was on delegating + trying to stay organized, but still. It was a ton of work, much more than I had imagined it to be. By the end of our packing we were literally throwing things in the Jeep or boxes to be shipped. Would you believe I packed my sewing machine + camera WITH us but mailed the cords to both? What a dork ;D

The only piece of furniture we brought with us was a baby bassinet my late-grandfather made. Everything else in our home will be bought out here… which is why things are still a bit bare. Every morning I secretly pray I’ll open my eyes and our bedroom will be set up so Zack can put together the bassinet. Soon! Soon! I need more patience I think.

I was able to get my sewing machine set up and it’s felt great to get back into the designing + creating for Gussy Sews. It’s almost like therapy to me, having my hands on something that is so comforting + familiar once again.

And nap-taking. That happens often. I start out just wanting to rest for a bit, but of course end up falling asleep to dreamland. And let me tell ya, it’s been a bit of a learning curve to determine how late I can rest before I find myself wide awake until midnight ;D

And oh look, a little section in our closet has been made for baby Whitley {my heart melts}, complete with a small collection of itty bitty baby clothes, an aden + anais swaddling blanket, a newborn cap, a couple of stuffed animals and a book.

Oh look, and there’s my bump!

Need to buy: a bookshelf, a wardrobe for organizing/storing Gussy Sews materials, a gray couch, end tables, comfy seats near the window, art for the walls, a giant cozy rug.

And our kitchen! Our big {compared to Minneapolis where I had 16″ of counter space, no joke}, beautiful, white, galley-style kitchen! Hello mop, measuring tape, snacks on the counter, a lavender candle + water for the iron.

…don’t you think I forgot about Mr. Bauer! There are so many cute, playful pups in our little apartment complex. Bauer has so many new friends, it’s so fun! But he tires quickly; yay for me, bummer for him.

Happy Tuesday to all! I’m off to tackle my to-do list of computer work + new product development. Also, loving this. xo

  1. How exciting to have a “fresh” start. That must have been freeing to pack so lightly!
    By the way, we LOVE our Aden & Anais swaddling blankets! They are still the only blanket our 17 m/o will sleep with. She always pulls them right over her face, and I never worry since they’re so breathable. A definite good buy!

  2. For furniture, art, rugs, clothes, etc at great prices you can even haggle on go to the Melrose Trading Post on Sundays at Fairfax& Melrose. It’s an amazing swap meet/flea market in the high school parking lot. When we moved from Chicago/Michigan we bought the majority of our furniture and art there! :)

  3. You look so good with a baby bump! I always love having a fresh start and finding things for our house every time we move. I can’t wait to see more pics.
    Do you ever accept gifts from people? I’d love to make the baby a blanket.

  4. Mags, I Love the pictures, thanks so much for sharing!! The kitchen is positively lovely :) , cannot wait to see it all put together, and I love that Bauer has friends too. Love and hugs to the whole family. Mom ……. that’s a whole lotta loves.
