One of my favorite songs

Last summer, Zack and I began waking up at 4:30 am to worship, read scripture, and pray. This song quickly became one of my favorite songs. As the months passed, I had stored even more of God’s wisdom in my heart, and as I listened to the words sang in the song, it was a comfort to recognize the strong references to scripture.

As someone who processes a lot of feelings and emotions, I like the peace this early-to-rise rhythm brought me. For instance, I had a lot of anxiety starting last September after months & months of trying to understand the changes the pandemic brought. It became VERY clear the importance of taking agency over my mind.

I’m familiar with the benefits of weaving scripture into song, but last year, as the pandemic entered the United States and rocked so many lives and home/family routines, this knowledge truly gave me a new song to sing.

If it weren’t for the Lord, I wouldn’t be living the life I am today. Even when things are hard, stressful, and seemingly too difficult, I have a different perspective because of Christ. Do you know the Lord? He is the best part of my life.

I think I would crumble many times a day if I didn’t have the assurance that it’s not through MY strength that I’m able to mother well.

Motherhood (and mentoring other women) is hard work because it has an eternal focus. It’s self-less work. Instead of “trying hard” to please the world, I aim to posture my heart toward loving the Lord by serving my children (and my mentees) well.

Do you have a favorite song? In what ways has the pandemic changed YOU for the better? What scriptures have you tucked in your heart? (Two of my favorites are shared above!)

TGIF!

xx, Maggie
