On wanting more patience.

I took these photos weeks ago. We were so “in the moment” here; me snuggled up with Natalie (she’s about 8 weeks old here) and Zack chasing after the always-exploring Maxwell. When I look at these photos I whisper thanks to God that His plan is always better than my plan.

The babies and I had such an amazing day yesterday. To be honest, my only goal was to have more patience for the entire day. Does that sound silly? It felt a little silly at first, but I know it’s something I struggle with as Max gains more independence and bravery. He is so eager to do things himself, and he’s so smart, that sometimes I expect more of him. Yesterday was a good first day of becoming more mindful of this, I decided.

When I step back and let us all just “be” I find our days to be more beautiful. Have you ever experienced that? And really, I see that in these photos. They’re so candid, so very “in the moment” for our little family.

I want to have more days of simplicity through having more patience — where I learn from my mistakes, and instead of feeling guilty over them I move forward with a changed heart. And so I did just that yesterday, and the day was so good. Have I mentioned that yet? :)

  1. Oh my gosh. I am so right there with you. With a toddler and a baby, I need to remember to just be in the moment more often. It’s so difficult to practice patience sometimes! Thanks for the encouragement!

  2. This does make so much sense. Sometimes the best days are the ones unplanned. We are spoiled and want things to go our way and when when it doesn’t we are let down. I know for one that I need more patience at times. I am learning, this can be a difficult task.

  3. One day at a time sweet Maggie that is all any of us moms can do. As a mom of three ages 7-10 and one having special needs-it is hard and it gets harder at times when they get older! Maggie, just know that you are doing an amazing job and an inspiration to others. I agree with Tahnie! I will admit now that I still struggle with patience. There have been tears……and having to ask for forgiveness………

  4. As they get older the patience thing get’s so much harder!! Mine are 9, 7, and 2 now and my 9 year old especially get’s the brunt of me expecting too much. Thank you for the reminder to be mindful of that, I’m so grateful for the forgiveness of our Lord and my kids when I apologize for doing wrong. Every day is a work in progress for sure!

    1. That’s so interesting to know… having patience doesn’t always go away just because we age. It can be a hindrance, but I choose it to be a life-long goal — a positive perspective! :)
