Natalie & her extremely adorable crib sheets.

Each morning, Natalie wakes up happy, as though it’s a fragment of who she is on the inside, it’s that simple. There’s nothing in particular we do to help her develop her happiness, she just is. And her brother was (is) the same way. Happy newborns, happy infants, happy toddlers… our family is so blessed.

When Natalie wakes up happy it’s an instant boost to my day. I love walking over to her crib and greeting her with a big, “it’s our happy girl!” cheer. The little nook where our kids sleep in our master bedroom — the only bedroom in our Los Angeles apartment — is such a happy space.

Max often climbs himself into her crib from his big boy bed. They are most often squealing, with Natalie’s arms raised up in excitement and a grin of pride enveloping Max’s face  :)

This season where we live in Los Angeles can be hard. Our apartment is small and our possessions go through a brutal, “do I really need this?” examination, but throughout the day we remember why we are here (to support Zack and his career).

Having things in our home that spark joy and creativity and serve our family well is my 3-point checklist for each and every possession. If an item doesn’t fall into one of those categories it gets the boot. I say “no” to a lot of gifts because we don’t have room to keep around extra stuff.

But if something comes my way and it brings joy and ignites creativity and helps me take care of my family, well then, I will find room for it. Natalie’s crib sheets are from Madly Wish, a handmade business from the outskirts of Chicago, and they are extremely adorable.

Our crib is an oval shape, and Whitney totally brightened my day when she sent us three of her crib sheets. They are well-made and remind me of how happy my Natalie is. It’s a real treat for me to have some of Whitney’s sewn work in our home.
