Today is a special day for anyone who loves shopping for fabric!!! Fashionable Fabrics has partnered with Gussy Sews to offer this community a pretty rad giveaway {details below} — and the best part is Fashionable Fabrics has some pretty amazing prints in their shop. I have a small collection of their seasonal fabrics and I can’t wait to show you the finished items :)

Here are some of my favorites from their shop: I mentioned yesterday on Instagram I can’t get seem to have enough pink in my closet — and the same applies to fabric! I just love this Party Zig Zag in Pink print. With Christmas nearing many of us are making + giving handmade gifts, and this Happily Ever After print would be so adorable as an apron for a little girl, curtains for her bedroom or quilted into a little blanket for her dollie.

Other prints I’m loving: this Alpine Wonderland design; this + this for a reversible sewing machine cover {use this tutorial}; this + this would make a gorgeous tree skirt; and I’m not sure what to make with this print but it is DREAMY {I kinda wanna frame it!}. Fashionable Fabrics also has patterns + sewing books so you can learn how to sew, which is so perfect — that’s how I learned to sew!

When shopping for fabrics it’s important to look for quality prints made from 100% cotton. Cotton is a very durable, washable fiber. Uniqueness in selection is also important to me, and of course pairing contrasting colors makes for a one-of-a-kind finished look. Other things I look for when shopping for fabrics: price, shipping speediness + the ability to shop by designer, color or theme.

Now that you know my favorite fabrics from Fashionable Fabrics let me introduce the duo behind the business!

MEET THE SHOP OWNERS// Hello, we are Dennis and Tonia, the husband + wife team behind Fashionable Fabrics.  We have two boys, Lane (9 years) and Graham (8).

We purchased Fashionable Fabrics almost on a whim. In 2009 we received an email announcing that a little online fabric shop I had purchased from was up for sale. I can remember that moment as if it was yesterday. I was sitting at the kitchen computer reading the email and Dennis was in the room with me and a spark of excitement ignited in me. I read the email to Dennis and to my astonishment he said, “Contact the owner”.  What? I couldn’t believe it. If you knew Dennis, you wouldn’t believe it either. Dennis is a very sensible, logical, reasonable man that takes his time with thoughtfully deliberation with every decision he makes. My response was, OK! And I did! A few weeks later, by the grace of God we became the new owners of Fashionable Fabric

I was inspired to own our fabric shop because sewing had become my therapy. I had an interest in sewing apparel for my Barbie dolls and dog when I was very young, then for myself in high school. But it wasn’t until we lost our first child due to prematurity that I began sewing for a cause. We had our faith and family to get us through the loss of our child but I needed an outlet and it became sewing.

Sewing was very therapeutic, but then we were blessed with two boys and I no longer had the time or space to lay out my patterns and fabric, scissors and needles. Running a fabric shop seemed like a good alternative and it has worked out well for us. Dennis and I both take equal parts in the business. I have the vision and creative side of running the business and Dennis has the technical brains to run the business. It works well for us. I do what I am good at and he does what he is good at and we work as a team. Fashionable Fabrics has been a blessing to us. We love what we do and love interacting with our customers. Our goal remains the same as it was when we started… to provide unique designer fabrics at affordable prices to those that love to sew.

I’m an avid sewer and have a soft spot for vintage dresses. I’ve got vintage pattterns on my sewing desk all spread out under glass and wanted to make curtains for the room in something like this fabric.
I also LOVE http://www.fashionablefabrics.com/homespun-chic-vintage-ladies-on-white-by-melody-ross-for-blend-fabrics-107-101-01-1.aspx which might be fabulous put together with a black and white spot and some gingham for a dress.
I’m on the other side of the world in a tiny country called New Zealand and we just don’t have fabric like this anywhere.
