Maybe you’re new-ish around here and aren’t sure what this Gussy Sews shop talk is all about? Let me fill you in :) About eleven years ago, right around this time of year, I found myself obsessed with the idea of sewing and running a handmade shop. I have always loved pouches, purses, and pouches & purses, so learning how to make them felt like the perfect product to make.
While living in Minneapolis, I began to share my journey on my blog and social media. One day, after many months of sewing practice and a few generous customers, I woke up and realized I could make my Gussy Sews shop my full-time job. So I quit my day job proofreading content at an Ad agency and jumped in with both feet. A few months later, I hired a few helpers.
A little while later my family moved to Los Angeles, and that’s when a new type of love was born: our first child. I was completely enthralled with motherhood and caring for my newborn son, and I began to see my business transition from full-time to part-time. Soon we were welcoming our second child, a daughter. And again, my Gussy business naturally transitioned as I re-arranged my priorities. My husband and I have since welcomed two more babies, yes — FOUR KIDS!, and we currently live near Detroit. As you can probably guess, Gussy Sews is not my current full-time job :)
However, I’ve found a new way to share the passion I have for Gussy Sews, and that is through occasional online pop-up shops and in-home markets. I really love my Gussy business. The products I design and sew are reliable, feature high-quality 100% cotton fabric and tell a really beautiful story of motherhood woven with creativity. Living a creative life is important to me. I’m so grateful to have my handmade shop walk alongside me as I raise my children and encourage follow mothers and women. There’s nothing like the power of a praying woman to encourage you along your journey!
