We have been in need of some mega family time! So many of Zack and my conversations seem to be focused around the kids and our home, chores and projects, and where we are with our debt payoff goals ~ all wonderful, great things, but also wonderfully, greatly adult ;) Last month our family snuck away for the day to just enjoy being together! We packed some snacks for the drive but it didn’t take long to get to our destination. We chose a city about an hour away from home that had yummy restaurants, a HUGE outdoor play center, and a large antique mall.
At the top of our list of priorities was just being together! I love my family so much, and I wanted to have a day spent together simply having fun and enjoying all the great qualities each person brings to our family. Something Zack and I like to recognize with each person is just how unique we really are. (If we were all the same, wouldn’t that be boring?!) So throughout the day I made a point to store into my mama memory bank little bits of our shared joy. Spending a few extra minutes on the swings (for Marigold), saying YES to frozen yogurt before dinner (for Max), holding hands and emphasizing quality time (for Natalie). Everyone’s “love tank” was filled to the brim!
That night when we returned home, all of our littles were sound asleep, so we quickly put on their jammies and then crawled in bed ourselves. It was such a full, solid, affirming family day. And to think ~ the next time we plan a family day trip we’ll have a tiny newborn with us! I’m so excited for that! :)
It can be challenging for sure to make sure everyone’s needs are met (especially while away from home), but it’s such an important part of motherhood that I really look forward to doing this part of my job well.
What part of motherhood is important to you/your family, and how do you “do it well”?
xx
What a fun idea!
With so many voices out there, your writing always encourages me to embrace the role / season the Lord has placed me in as a fellow mom of littles.
Hi Amanda! I’m so happy to read this :)
