Another week is wrapping up, and I just have to say MY GOODNESS, that was a rather hard one. We are transitioning Natalie from her crib to a toddler bed (she’s not quite 21 months, however Goldie has outgrown her cradle) and it’s not gone well. I mean, Natalie is having the time of her life (lol). But Zack and I? Not so much. Monday night she was up until nearly Midnight, walking the halls and coming into our room to say “hi” in the quietest, huskiest voice ever — and it got to the point where Zack and I were laying in bed trying not to laugh out loud or pee our pants. I’ll let you guess who was who, there ;)
Marigold, on the other hand, is the calmest out of out three babes. So far, I mean ;) some of you have asked how she is doing, thank you so much for that. She has a couple upcoming appointments for a kidney ultrasound and then to see her nephrologist (kidney doc), and I’m working hard at not worrying. God has her wrapped in the palm of His hand! She’s such a smiley girl, it’s a real joy to have another baby in the house. Max loves holding her or laying next to her on our bed, and Natalie is obsessed (still) with finding all the baby items in our house and bringing them to me.
This week we made it to the park twice! It’s been so super hot lately that we’ve been inside more than we should be. The kids have been able to stretch their legs and play, and we begin the one mile walk back home with dirt on our cheeks. Also? Don’t you wish you had construction goggles to wear while you ride your tricycle? Usually Max has his (foam) sword hanging from his John Deere bicycle, I love his vibrant personality so much :)
Almost two weekends ago I helped my friend for a couple of hours with her annual warehouse sale, and then once naptime started I went out for a gel polish manicure. I have always known being at home with the kids is hard (exhausting?) work, but when I came home and found Zack fast asleep on the couch, with his mouth wide open, I about died. PARENTING AFFIRMATION, at it’s best! ;)
Goldie’s onesie reads, Brave and Strong like Mom. Thanks Taylor for the super sweet message! :)
Little bits of “them” are always out, and right now this means a lot of dollies and Legos and swaddle blankets.
During naptime I’ve been working on my Rodan + Fields skincare business, I can’t believe how much I love their products and the added community it’s brought me while I’m at home with our littles. Have you heard of the products? And, do you have a skincare routine you love? If not, I hope you’ll reach out :)
How has your week been? Did you finish anything that has been on your to-do list for weeks? Did you get a chance to read a book or meet up with a friend? Was your goal to simply “make it to Friday”? I’d love to hear from you, leave a comment and share something — anything, with me?
Well the goal was to make it to Friday since it was also super hot so me and my little would be stuck inside all week;)
I did however start a crochet hello kitty for my niece and read half a book and finished editing two projects ;)
Thank you for your honesty always. :)
You’ve read half a book — just this week? Which one?? :)
It’s a short book;) it’s called looking for lovely by Annie downs. It’s really good so far. I read half and hour at lunch once Everly goes down for her nap then the homemaking work begins. ;)
Ohhhh, I have that book on my bookshelf! ;D
It’s really good so far:) some days motherhood is hard so it’s nice to be reminded to look for the joy:) it’s not about motherhood but you can definitely apply it. :)
So hot here in WI as well but we’re enjoying cooler temps (which means we’re doing our groceries/errands) for a couple days. Maybe hopefully you’ll get a similar break from the heat!! Have a super weekend :)
I love to entertain have have people over. Nothing formal or fancy. Just loving on my neighbor type entertaining. So I try to do it a couple times a week. This week we had a pool party. Because it’s been hot (please don’t leave me summer). 12 kids ages 4-13. 2 grandmas (who babysit the grands) and 1 young momma and me.
I also had 2 families over from my neighborhood. Young families. 5 kids between them ages 4-7. I just told them to show up for dinner. One momma works and another momma babysits her sisters kids all day. So it’s fun to prep and cook and feed families. The mom as are so appreciative because they didn’t have to do a thing. The favor is returned often as well. Sometimes we walk our hot pots to the neighbors house and combine our dinners. Text the hubby’s which house to meet at if they want dinner. Lol.
Come to me and I will feed you and hold babies. Lol
Oh my gosh, could you be more dreamier of a neighbor??????? I just love that. Some of the streets in our neighborhoods are cul-de-sac’s with a little grassy area in the middle, I sort of wish our cul-de-sac had a grassy area. I would totally put two benches on it, just like Emily Freeman talks about ;) You are a real gem, Katy!
We moved our 2.5 year old into his toddler bed two months ago, and it has been terrible! (Baby #2 coming in 3 weeks so it had to be done!) I feel for you, mama. I thought potty training would be hard (it was SO EASY – praise God!) but the toddler bed. Oh my. Hope N gets better at it more quickly than my little man.
Also, glad you and Zack are keeping a sense of humor through it. I loved your description of N saying “hi” and the two of you cracking up. My husband and I – not so much. You are a good influence on me! :)
Right????? Potty training was so easy. And also because Zack did it, snort.
I love the way you’re decorating your house. It’s very cute.
It’s been a rough week over here, but I am thankful for God’s grace every day! I need it so much.
Thanks Kate! I’m having a lot of fun!
my 2nd and 3rd are 19 months a part. I can still remember crying and getting angry and feeling hopeless trying to get my little guy to stay in his bed. One day, when my youngest was 5, I was in a mom’s group listening to a lady who had 8 grown children talk about how they didn’t force the toddler bed and sometimes had two cribs or a crib with a kid in a pack n play. My mouth literally dropped open. Why hadn’t I thought of that? Why didn’t anyone tell me? I blame being exhausted.
Anyway…I hope that you find some encouragement in that. If what you’re doing works, that’s awesome! But know that you can always throw out the rules and just do whatever it takes so that all get a great night’s rest :)
I love the simplicity in that kind of thinking — I try to do that often with parenting and our home, but usually when I’m exhausted I find myself not thinking clearly ;) So, thanks for the reminder and little bit of encouragement :)
I love your posts so much. You always give me the daily recap, and I get texts of most of your pics, but there’s nothing like your written word opening up your heart, babe.
Thank you for saving your thoughts, our images, and our family history for the future.
Love the construction goggles, the toddling out of bed at midnight to say hi, the manicure, and what a cute bicycle embroidery you have there! *wink*… also, Zack’s comments are always the best. He is so clearly a supportive husband who ‘gets’ you. I love that. And as always, you seem to be keeping your sweet perspective on this crazy chapter of life. Hugs and blessings! <3
