Over the weekend we drove north and walked around Franklin Canyon Park for about an hour, and it was amazing. Bauer loves going on adventures in the Jeep, and now that we live in California we are enjoying being outside all year round. It’s definitely a huge perk for us. The fall weather is appearing here in Los Angeles and it’s gorgeous! It’s about 72* most days with a chill in the air in the morning and evening… perfect for snuggling on the couch while we sip our morning coffee. It’s also the best sleeping weather. Now only if Maxwell wasn’t waking up so frantic in the middle of the night… (Lemme just say, thank goodness for my highlighter stick to help me look more awake in the morning.) Anyhoo :) While we were walking the park Saturday — in all it’s peaceful glory — a random memory popped into my head, so I thought it would be fun to share “twenty things” about me that you may or may not know.
TWENTY THINGS //
1. I could eat ice-cream every single day of my life
2. I have one sibling, an older brother named Matt, and he is amazingly talented and funny
3. Something I struggle with is feeling good enough in the eyes of other people, especially my friends. I worry I’m not funny enough, good enough, smart enough to be a long-lasting friend. I know this stems from past hurts and I’m working through it, but it’s difficult more often than I’d like it to be
4. My dad made me a banana seat bicycle when I was little. It was Barbie pink. And obviously it was my favorite!
5. Zack and I met our freshman year of college. I thought he was super cute… and you know how that worked out for us ;)
6. Having a candle lit in the evening calms me
7. We adopted Bauer when he was 12 weeks old from a rescue shelter. As soon as we drove away with him in the backseat I had a real serious moment of panic. A PUPPY, WE HAVE A PUPPY! :) Also, whenever I tell Bauer, “daddy’s coming home” he perks up, shakes his collar and sits by the front door
8. I desire to know more about the books/people of the Bible
9. My parents have 3 grandchildren and they are all boys
10. Making a list of my “most important tasks” is the best way for me to have an accomplished day, whether it’s work or personal
11. I’ve been sewing for 5 years now, but a couple weeks ago I sewed through my finger ((shudder)). I never want to do that again
12. I wore orange heels on our wedding day ;)
13. My memory has become terrible… TERRIBLE! When they say having a baby makes you lose your memory, they aren’t kidding! I can’t tell you how many times I stare into space because I can’t follow my own thought…
14. One time in college, we snuck a puppy into our dorm room for a few days. The RA found out but he stared us straight in the eye and said he “saw nothing” (snort)
15. During the summer months, while Zack and I were dating during college, we’d take an entire roll of photos from a disposable camera when we saw each other. Our parents live three hours apart, so we only saw each other 2x/month for the weekend when on summer break. It was so fun to develop the roll and then split up the photos before we kissed goodbye <3
16. I was on the Varsity cheerleading team in high school all four years, and I LOVED it!
17. One year, for elementary school photos, I kept a piece of gum in my mouth because it was white and there was no way (!) my mom would be able to see it. I’ll let you guess whether she saw it or not… ;)
18. Zack and I have lived in three states (MI, MN, CA) and six apartments in our 5 years of marriage
19. I taught myself how to sew in 2008 from 30 library books and watching lots + lots of YouTube videos
20. The first time I felt Maxwell kick inside me was on an airplane traveling home from a blog conference :) I was feeling pretty nervous but kept telling myself, “I am brave, I am brave” during takeoff. And about a minute later I felt our baby kicking for the very first time. This is a very special memory for me

What’s something really unique or exciting about you/your story? I’d love to know. Leave a comment below! :)
PS. Did you see the Gussy Sews/Little Hip Squeaks giveaway that launched Friday? We’re giving away a large zip pouch that isn’t inside the Gussy shop, and pssstt — it involves a brand new fox print.
Hi! I just loved reading your list, so cute! And i am really happy that you have a great memory of when you first felt Max move. I felt my little girl move on Christmas morning!!!! Now that is something I will never forget! ;-) She turned 6 already this year ;-)
@Anneri, OH MY, what a wonderful gift that was for you :D
#11 O.U.C.H. reading that sent a cold shiver through me.
#13 I nicknamed it SBD “scatter brain disease” after my 1st child was born. it really happens. i had it all together until i had kids! {wink!}
#3 love you!
something unique & exciting about me? my first job was selling books & gifts to tourists after they went on a tour of the white house.
xoxo, CT
@caroline, Please tell me it comes back, even just if it’s a tiny bit? Or, does the memory loss worsen with every child? ;D Ohhhh what an interesting job. Did you work on the White House property??? Have you been inside? Love you, heart friend ♥.
@Gussy Sews, a tiny bit ;) or at least i keep blaming it on my kids but i wonder how long i can do that?? yes! it was inside the white house but it was AGES ago when i was 16 so that was 1988 & Reagan was president. gosh, i’m old!
How I met my Hubs: Went to meet a girlfriend to get some papers (more on that in a sec), we met at a rest/bar downtown, not knowing there was a hockey game. We scored seats at the bar. The place got more & more busy, we kept getting interrupted. I thought to myself the NEXT person to interrupt us for a beer is going to get it dumped on them! sure enough…as I turned to “accidentally” spill/hand it to them…a voice inside me scolded me and told me not to do it. I shook it off going to go for it…again scolded. I stopped looked at the face of the person. He had a sweet smile and kind eyes. He asked for my number, I said no and told him where I’d be later if he wanted to try and find me. HE DID. We’ve been together since. The papers I was picking up; they were papers to legally change my name. God had a sweeter plan for that one!
Hi Maggie! I so enjoyed your list. I think Maxwell is an incredible blessing from the Lord. Something about me…we have just begun on 22 year of homeschooling. I have graduated two daughters and our son is in the 11th grade. One more thing is that I’d love to learn to sew better. I like your You Tube idea. Any other suggestions? Blessings Maggie from Northern Califormia. :)
@Lisa Mac, I really enjoyed the book Bend the Rules Sewing, it teaches you how to use found items, like a fabric dinner napkin, as the base for creating a new item. But another tip is to check out a lot of books and then focus on the ones that jive well with your learning style. I like lots of pictures, and I’ve found video works well, too! It’s hard to learn how to sew using something 2D, but being able to see it in 3D (kinda) through a video was super great. xoxo
I wore orange heels on my wedding day also! Loved reading your list and learning more about you. :)
@Mai, REALLY??? OH that makes me happy! When did you get married? ♥
Memory loss after having a baby is no joke. I find myself staring off into space at *least* one a day after having lost my train of thought. I love burning candles – they relax me almost instantly. What flavor of ice cream is your favorite? I loveLOVElove Ben & Jerry’s Americone Dream.
Something interesting about me: I’m a SAHM/hopeful handmade business owner. My husband and I picked up and moved with our sons from San Diego to Seattle, away from our family and friends. I wasn’t homesick at all until very recently – I’m 7 months pregnant with our third child and I think my brain is having a hard time wrapping itself around the idea of being this far from my mom while preparing for a new baby. Minor homesickness aside, I absolutely love living in the PNW. The beautiful difference in seasons alone is enough to make the move worth it.
@Nakia, Hahaha… oh I’m so relieved I’m not alone!! My favorite kind of ice-cream… mint chocolate chip… the green kind, not the white with mint flecks. :)
I have a few more to add… you are super talented, have great hair, and a precious baby. My 12 year old daughter and I have been sewing for a year. Your blog feeds my new addiction. Blessings! Susan
@Susan Jeffries, Oh my goodness — blush! — thank you Susan! :) What kind of things are you two sewing? That is so amazing!!
One detail I like to share about myself is that I lived in Saudi Arabia for two years from 12-14 years old. It was the most unique experience of my life and with it brought many travels like Egypt, Thailand, Dubai, and Spain :)
@Jessica, Ohhh, interesting!!!! For sure!!! What was their culture like? Favorite differences? Least favorite differences? I’d truly love to know more!!! :)
What a fun way to get to know you a bit more!
I sewed through my finger once too! It was a few years ago, and I busted out the sewing machine to remodel old t-shirts with a friend of mine. She hadn’t done any sewing since she was a kid because she had sewn through her finger once in a kids sewing class, and stayed away from the machine ever since. I assured her it would be ok, and then promptly (and accidentally, of course) sewed through my own finger! Oops!
@Denielle, I’m bummed we both joined the club! That’s the last time I try to rush through a sewing project… :)
I totally thought the memory loss thing was an old wives tale, but now at 25 weeks pregnant I have to write down everything! I’ve missed so many friend and family dates because I thought… “oh that’s in just a couple days, I’ll remember”. NOPE didn’t remember. :O
So fun reading these things about you Maggie.
One thing most people don’t know about me is that I love working on cars and it’s something my husband loves about me.
I’m also very conscious about what my friends are thinking about me. Especially because I’m so honest.
Thank you so much for sharing sweetie! Xo
Maggie, great list! I too am more in love with God’s word each day and desire to know more.
We both have handsome dudes named Max Whitley!
We played this Lion King song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xs9dYbx5hGQ at the end of our wedding, right after the pastor (my dearly departed father!) said “I present to you Mr. and Mrs. Scott Whitley!” What JOY! We celebrate 19 years in the spring. I’d do it all again!
#3 and #14 :)
My parents have four boys for grandchildren, and my in-laws have five boys and one little girl. She’s the queen bee ;) I’m enjoying watching you fall in love with your little Max!
