It’s time for another week of inspiration ~ where each week we link up RIGHT HERE and blog hop for an extra dose of that KAZAAM! feeling —wink!
THE PROMPT ~
This weeks prompt is INSPIRING BOOKS. I’m on my toes, will you share about decorating with books, your favorite books, trips to the library as a young one? Or maybe you D I S L I K E reading and so you are going to talk about burning a book {eeek, don’t tell me you’ve burned a book before!!!}, hah!
MY INSPIRATION ~
Reading books is something I’ve always loved to do. Some of my favorite memories revolve around books:
+ Being a part of the Baby-sitter’s Club reading book club as a tween
+ Reading with my mom at the cottage
+ Reading with girlfriends at the beach
+ Looking at my favorite magazines, like Real Simple or O Magazine
+ Learning how to sew about 3 years ago/checking out 30 library books {and reading them!}
+ Some of my blog friends, whom I’ve even met, writing a book: Angie Smith, book 1 + book 2; Ann Voskamp, Emily Freeman, for example.
Since Zack and I got married I’ve really enjoyed collecting books and cookbooks and using them to decorate our home. Books we consistently use, or really loved reading, are stacked around our living room and bedroom. This 4-wheeled cart is just too perfect:
And honestly? I think the yellow paint on the walls is really what attracts me to the book collections shown here:

I think I’ve only had a subscription to Real Simple just one time {not currently} but it’s one I really would love to make a constant. This magazine is like a timeless “book” ~ seriously perfect for keeping around our home season after season. The photo collages and articles and tips don’t ever expire. O Magazine is sort of the same way for me.
Then there’s Water for Elephants and The Pact, two books I’ve read — one just recently and one a long time ago, that I think will forever be my favorites. I love that reading words on a page can bring excitement and happiness. I love reading something that makes me feel like I’m right there, smelling & hearing & feeling the moment, too.
Going back to my tweeny-bopper days, I remember getting 3 books each month {or was it each quarter?} of the Baby-sitter’s Club and I was so excited to read them that I read all 3 books at once. HAH — and I remember that bothered my dad! Which now I think is pretty cute, he wanted to make sure I was really reading the words on the page and understanding the stories. Not just rushing through them. But I was just too obsessed, I suppose ;]
I’ve heard about hosting a baby shower where each guest has to bring their favorite childhood book as the gift. I think this is such a great way to start a book/reading collection for your kids and family. Having a home “library” was really one of the best parts of my childhood. I remember waking up in the middle of the night and laying on the floor next to the night-lite, just reading away. Whenever Zack and I have a family I hope we can do something like this too — seeing some of the photos out there where nurseries and living rooms are filled with books makes me so happy. It’s definitely something I want for our family, whenever it’s our time :]

Yeah, I was a BSC nerd, as well. I could never save my money as a tween because I always had to buy new BSC books! And, I love LOVE the baby shower idea. That’s what I will be doing for a friends baby shower!
Oh wow! I was in the BSC book club also! Memories. I still have every book and all of the paraphernalia they sent.
…i wish i was at my parents house so i could check to see if i have it, too — ahhh! ;] such a fun time!
ohhh, loved loved loved the baby-sitter’s club! did you ever watch the tv show?! “say hello to your friends… baby-sitter’s club!” ha! and i am a huge fan of real simple mag too (:
i watched the TV show and saw the movie like 92375 times, hah! I remember the day the movie came out… oh, that was like THE BESET day of my tweenie life.
I loved the BSC, some of the best years of reading coming from those books when I was younger.
I love giving books as gifts for any occasion, my nieces and nephews always are given books for christmas and I give board books for baby showers. Books really do make a great gift!
I love the Pact, one of my fav’s too! :) And I always used to read a ton of books at once and my dad would always ask me how I even knew what was going on in each book!!
Love the last picture with the books by the stairs.
I also love The Pact…included in my post too!
I apologize, but the first time my link did not work, so I needed to retry… 2nd time was the charm.
I apologize for the double post, but you will see that the first one (#66) leads nowhere. The second one (#67) is all set.
Thanks for hosting!
I am a new follower and participant and very glad to have found you.
Best,
