it has been soooo long since i recorded a vlog. my last one was two months ago ;] yikes! so i have a fun idea — watch the QUICK video below and then leave a comment relating to the prompt i talk about. this is the start of me sharing a little more personal things…
let’s interact {via a vlog}! from gussy sews on Vimeo.
wishing you a happy day! xoxo
*update: i’m closing the comments so i can gather what has been left for me and work on my vlog of replies :]
I don’t know if I’ve ever read aobut your family – do you have any siblings?
And just because I want to know – What’s your absolute favorite color?
Love that top you’re wearing in the vlog. Cute.
Your shirt is fab! Jus Sayin’!
Hi Gussy :)
What is your favorite product that you make??? And just one more…What do you like to do for fun when you are not sewing ruffles??
Love your shirt :) Super Cute!!
Great idea!! I love when u post videos your so adorable and I feel like your readers really get to see your heart!
How do you make your hair look so darn cute all the time?!
You are just too cute!!! I love how you are always trying to connect with your fans. I can’t think of any questions right now, but I think seeing a video of you in work mode in your studio would be fun!
I *loved* the vlog. Oh my goodness.
I love it when you say “I’m going to end this before Bauer gets crazy” because dude, I think I say something like that every time I try to vlog. The kids can be almost comatose in a nap and the minute I pull out the webcam it is like a supersonic sound wave hits them to start screaming or hitting each other. LOL.
I guess my question would be
What do you like to sew for “fun”? Who are some of your favorite fabric designers? {I’m on the Dewberry bandwagon as well as the Melissa Averinos train.}
What was your approach to marketing? Would you be willing to share any of that with us?
Ok, that was way more than one. Can’t wait to see your next vlog…
and yes, your shirt rocks.
I love that Bauer still wants to say hello! Your top is so cute. :)
Question, hmmm…Of course, we all know that you love to sew your ruffles, but are there any other sewing projects you’ve done that you can share? Or maybe projects that you want to do in the future? I’d love to know!
Have a wonderful day…
I’m newer to your site and cute products, I’m curious what tips you’d give to someone who’s just starting out their blog? How’d you get so many followers? it seems like it happened super fast, so congrats on that! Also, do you have any easy sewing patterns for newer seamstresses? Thank you!!!
No questions here at the moment except….if you tell us where that top is from its going to sell out:) Love it!
xo
I love this idea!
If you weren’t running Gussy Sews, what would your dream job be?
I have recently opened a handmade jewellery shop on bigcartel. Apart from blogging, what do you think are the best ways to direct traffic to your shop site? Also I find pricing hard, do you have any tips?
Funny because I wanted to tell you that I love that shirt, and it seems so has everyone else that watched your video! :) Haha!
I too think it would be fun to see a vlog of you at work in the studio. I always love your business tips and posts. And on being organized, finances, etc. I am new to blogging, so any advice you have on how to make a nice blog (without paying someone to do it for you) would be super helpful! I don’t even know how to make a custom header! :( We are trying to pay off all debt (thank you Dave Ramsey!!) so spending money to “fix up” my blog isn’t going to happen for now….
Just want to say that I love your blog! I am new to blogging and sewing for business (machine embroidery) and can relate to your excitment and love of sewing!! You are so uplifting and fun!!
Thanks for sharing!
I’m going to say ditto to all the above comments (and add that you have the cutest puppy ever!).
Question – You mention in your faq section that you have a staff of two gals. :) Can you tell us a little more about them and the process of finding help?
Thanks!
How do you make your ruffles? And what’s your favorite color? And if you could only use one of your products, which would it be and why?
I’m new to your community here and loving it! I <3 finding positive places that encourage woman in business. ^_^ My question: As someone who's just getting started in the biz, what would be one piece of advice that you'd offer in building the business and the brand? I feel like I have a good product, it's more about getting it out there, maybe? ^_^ Thanks! And looking forward to reading your full story!
I love your top too! My questions are probably more personal, and don’t feel like you have to answer publicly if you don’t want to.
How do you keep up your relationship with God? What draws you closer to Him? What are your favorite worship songs?
Ok no questions, at least not right this second. But I just want to say that your are absolutely adorable!! I just recently started following you. You’re such an inspiration. To see you grow your business so quickly gives me motivation to get my store going, even just to sell a few items and do what I love.
Maybe this is my questions: what were some of the setbacks you had when getting your business going and how did you overcome them?
Thanks!!
Nysse and I were watching the vlog, and when Bauer said hello, she said hello back =)
you are too cute. hi bauer.
gussy, you rock my socks off! you are so inspriing…i can always count on you to keep my creative juices flowing. I have some similiar questions to belinda a few comments above. How do you get your name out there, exposure etc when you are just starting a handmade shop? :)
First I have to say … Loved the vlog! I dont have any specific questions but I love when you share tips about how you run your business! Especially the little details like how you stay organized or budget! Any more tips like that would be awesome!
Love the vlog!
I would love to know what’s next for Gussy Sews?
Also – maybe not in a vlog but what are some of your tips for those just starting running your own indie business and/or a blog.
Thanks!!
if money were no option…where in the whole wide world would you choose to live?
*object
What advice would you give someone who is just starting out – or rather re-starting – with a handmade business? I had a business before that was marginally successful, mostly with local sales, but also on etsy. I closed it at the beginning of this year due to extreme burnout, but I’m motivated and ready to start a new handmade business. It seems like etsy has sort of “jumped the shark” since then, and I’m just not sure where I should start.

No question but I just want to say that I love your top and that it’s great to hear your voice! :)
Love your cute top and the puppy in the background!! Could you explain and/or compare options for an online handmade shop… besides etsy? :)
Yippee! I LOVE your top! :) Super cute…and I’ve always wanted to say that I love your cute little accent ;) I don’t know if you hear it or if anyone else does, but I just love Michigan/Minnesota/etc. accents..I have a friend that I talk to all the time who is from that area and I just love it! :)
My question…hmm….what was the hardest part about moving to a new city and state and what did you do about it? My hubby and I just moved 1,100 miles away from our families and its been very good for us but also hard…just wanted to see how you handled your move! :)
Alright, I’m a newbie Gussy fan, too! I’ve totally started saving my pennies for my 1st Gussy with plans for many more in the future. I think the whole *vlog* idea is awesome and as you and others have mentioned allows us to connect with you on a different level. Feels like you’re in our living room – so to speak! So, with that being said – my question…
…You have TOTALLY inspired me to get off my butt and get my creative juices flowing again. I’m a musician by trade, but haven’t really written anything in a long time – read: Got married 1.5 years ago and had our first baby 3 months ago. So, in addition to kicking that part of my life back in gear – I’ve also been recently inspired to learn how to so (*bows to Gussy*). Mom is giving her sewing machine to me and I’ve checked out a ton of books from the library – now what? Any tips/patterns/resources/tricks/advice/HELP for a brand new baby in the sewing world? I would love to hear your thoughts and inspiration on this kind of stuff!
Oh good heavens – I said, “learn how to so” – really, Alle? Really?
*sigh* – “sew”
No questions – just wanted to let you know that your top is super cute!
Love this idea! I don’t have a question but wanted to let you know that when I was playing the video and Bauer was barking my dog went a little nuts looking for where he was. It was so funny! :)
one question- define your style? :)
Can you show us like one day in the life of Gussy? What you do when you wake up, like a daily routine kinda thing or just tell us about it is good too ;)
Never~ever~ever forget how SPECIAL you are!
YOU SHINE SO BRIGHT!
YOU MAKE ME SMILE!
You my friend….are precious!
Adore you~love you bunches!
Hugs from Bainbridge!
Doogan barks back to Bauer…and sends HAPPY wags!
xo
I also LOVE your top! I would love to see a video of your studio, as it gives a better idea than photos of workspace. And I would love to hear about your family and the story of you and your husband and your courtship. Maybe some wedding photos?
Also, hearing your voice reminded me of a cross between Lisa Leonard (you know who she is, right?) and another friend of mine. Unexpected surprise. : >
How do you feel about flying? ;)
You’re such a little cutie pie! Good idea, vlogging! I would love some advice on how to attract traffic to my blog. I’ve tried to be good about leaving comments for other bloggers I read in order to be more interactive but it only helps so much…there are only so many blogs a girl can read and so many comments she can write! Thanks, girl. I appreciate you!! xoxo
[…] this morning I posted a vlog, and then later this morning I received an email from Emma via her mama. Isn’t Emma THE […]
Do you ever sell your cute loot at craft shows or art festivals?
p.s. LOVE that shirt, and you doll!
