Hi everyone! I’m here with a fun, totally unique project to share with you that involves 6 other bloggers/crafters :] A while ago I was contacted by Andrea of Knitty Bitties to participate in a Spring Board collaboration. Today’s the FOURTH day of the week-long event. Be sure and click over to her blog to see the other projects being shared :]
The Spring Board collaboration is hosted by Knitty Bitties and is sponsored by The Fabric Shoppe.
All 7 participants were each given 2- fat quarters, a 7″ scrap of unbleached cotton, a doily and a piece of jumbo ric-rac. Andrea asked us to create something fun using the above listed items and then share our finished craft on our blog. Guess what else? I’m giving it away — more details below!
First though, I’m sharing my quirky ‘lil embroidery hoop house in the form of a fun DIY/tutorial…
Step 1: Select the materials you want to work with. For this project I used 2 pieces of fabric, a pretty doily, a piece of unbleached cotton, some ric-rac, thread, a sewing machine, a piece of fabric cut into a circle {big enough to stretch around my embroidery hoop}, an embroidery hoop, scissors, a paint brush, and Mod Podge.
Since the project is small, you could definitely hand stitch all your pieces. That would be a super cute alternative if you don’t have a sewing machine.
Step 2: Before I started cutting, I brain stormed what I wanted to create. I decided on a landscape design featuring a quirky house, pink ric-rac “grass” and a quirky/over-sized flower. Then I cut them out, adding multiple pieces of fabric to create layers for the house, flower bud and stem. I also added a heart to the house and the center of the flower. So sweet! Carefully pick up your layered house and using coordinating thread, sew all layers together. Do the same for your flower bud and stem. *Remember you can hand embroider your pieces.
Step 3: When all of the cutting was complete, I pinned the doily onto my circular piece of fabric {that I’d stretch over the embroidery hoop later} and sewed on top of the outer edge. Because I used matching thread {cream} you can’t even see my stitches. It’s magic! :]
Here’s a shot of my doily sewn on with the 3 pins still woven through the fabric:
Step 4: The second-to-last step is to stretch your circular piece of fabric over the embroidery hoop. Then, place your quirky house, flower and ric-rac “grass” on top of the sewn-on doily. Once you have them arranged in a cute way, grab your paint brush and Mod Podge and apply a layer of glue to your cut fabric pieces. Press firmly for a handful of seconds. When all pieces of glued, tighten the stretched fabric once more. Allow enough time for them to dry completely — maybe 20 minutes? You’re almost done :]
Step 5: This last step is to ADMIRE YOUR WORK :] and find a place to hang your quirky ‘lil house. Every time I look at it I giggle — seriously. I think it’s the cutest little house ever. Yay ~ the project is complete!
*Shelley from House of Smith’s will be featured on the Spring Board tomorrow — visit her blog to see her project and a change to win HER giveaway, too? ♥

what do i love about my home? i love that we’ve been here for twenty years and it’s worn in all the right places and fits us just right, like a favorite pair of jeans. it’s not too big and we (me, hubby, 2 kids) use every square inch of it. it’s a true reflection of who we are!
My porch is my favorite part of my house. It overlooks a creek and always has a nice breezy feel. It settles me and lets me know ~ I am home. I love your creation!
It’s adorable! I love my new sewing room where I can work and look out window to the front yard while listening to my favorite tunes.
What do I love about my home? Well, it’s a love/hate thing. I love that it needs so much work, because we like doing the remodeling and making it our own. But then I hate it because I wish we could just live in a house that’s “done” for once! LOL! Cute project!
adorable!!! I love all the memories attached to my house :)
This is really cute:) I just made my first piece of hoop art this past month and participated in Heather’s Hoop Art Swap(Life Made Lovely) which was a blast.
What I love about our home? Hmmm…its old, full of original woodwork, a corner fireplace, hidden closet under the stairs and a full 3rd floor attic. Its also full of history. It was the first one built on this block back in 1860 and the town’s pharmacist lived here(his daughters names are carved into the attic:)) Plus its been in hubbys family since 1969. His dad actually grew up here!
Have a great weekend!
Sarah
oh my goodness that is so cute!!! I love hoop art and this one’s GREAT! I love so many things about my home: my little vintage inspired kitchen, my super cute studio, my bright sunroom, my son’s nursery, and most especially — the people in it! That’s what makes it home after all! :)
what I’m SO thankful for about out house is that it’s big enough for my family ~ 10 kids in 1400 sq feet was not the most pleasant situation (though we got by ;-) ), but the Lord has blessed us with more than twice that now! it’s amazing!
I adore our house. We searched our small town for the perfect home for our family for two years & finally found it exactly a year ago at this time. My favorite thing about it would be the layout of the rooms on the first floor along with the colors we’ve painted. It’s very warm & cozy…perfect for the people I love the most.
My craft room- it faces towards this cute little woodsy part! In the summer its in full bloom and so pretty, and in winter when it the tree and grass are covered in crisp snow its even more gorgeous! Such a perfect place to face when crafting!
What I love most about my house it that is is HOME.
Being home most days, all day, I sometimes don’t appreciate it as much as I could. But after being away on vacation for a week, when we turn the corner and I see our house I always say, “We’re home!”. What a great feeling.
This would be perfect in my daughter’s room. My favorite thing about my house? The mural painted by my awesome friend before he was born (ocean themed).
THAT is super cute:)
Maggie: Super cute job on your little house! I love it. Hmmm…what do I like best about our house? I think that my favorite thing is that, at the end of the day, it shelters our little family and provides a cozy place for us to be together. It may be a little rough around the edges. It might not be a designer’s dream. But it’s ours and we love it. So there you go! : ) Tricia
I love that! So cute! I like that my dream in high school was marrying & having kids with Brooks…and it came true & our home is filled with 3 little ones!
I love my home and the beautiful peace it gives me when it greets me everyday after work. It shelters my family, provides warmth, provides comfort, and holds so many memories of my little goofballs growing up!
That little house is as sweet as can be~love it!! My favorite part of my house is my new happy craft room!
How pretty!!!! you are so crafty my dear!! I love the warmth our house holds and the cheery details around the house!! :)
Love that little house! My favorite part about my home is the people who are in it; my husband, daughter, & pup. I also love my big dining room table that can fit even more people for family dinners!
something I love about my home is all the homemade goodies I have :)
Sweet project! :)
This is so pretty! I love the large windows in my home!
This is super cute – love your project. What I love about my home is the memories it contains – memories of when the kids were little, memories of them growing up, and memories of us growing old!!
What i love about my home is that my kids (college/grad students) always want to come back to it! :) thanks
Hi, Maggie! Just wanted to pop in and say how cute your project is and that I’m so enjoying seeing what the other Board Members have come up with! I am in love with the photo of you and your BF at the top of your blog. (heart clenching!) Also would you please give me your house? Thanks! Unfortunately you’ll have to skip me for the giveaway, that would look a bit rigged. ha.

I love EVERYTHING about our home!! It’s small, colorful, full of everything that represents US which I think is the most important! WE LOVE BEING AT HOME! Sometimes I think I’m a hermit :-)
I love my flat driveway for my kids to play on :)
my favorite thing about my house is my kitchen. its not a great kitchen by any means…no viking stove or fancy fridge, but i love my tiny kitchen! its where my son and i bake and cook with each other. he sometimes plays on the floor with spatulas while i talk to him in detail about what “we” are baking. my kitchen is a platform of learning and experimenting. its our spot :)
The think I love about our house the most is the neighborhood we live in. It is quiet, but lots of kids for my kiddos to play with :)
I love, love, love my home for many reasons…1 of course is that I bought so obviously i liked it. 2 is where my husband are starting our family with just doggies right now, and the 3rd most awesome thing is that I can do WHATEVER I want! (unless my husband thinks its absolutely redic!)
Home is where your Story begins. I love all things Home; it’s my favorite place to be. =)
i love that is where my family rests and enjoys each other!
Ummmmmm!
How TOTALLLY and UTTERLY CUTE is that!
Passing out over the cute~ness!
xo
home is a realitive term for me, life really hasn’t allowed me to put down roots in one place. i tell my fiancee, “when i say i’m going home, i’m going to where you are.” that is what i love about home…my heart lives there.
I love that wonderful smells that just screams home. You know… the baked cookies, wooden stove and people mix. :) It is excellent after a weekend away.
Mostly I love my home because we live on an acre with lots of trees, but my favorite part is my fireplace we had builtin from a picture I found in a magazine.
Maggie, this is so so cute…. love it!!!
I will try to make something similar.. u are such an inspiration!
Hv u seen my hoop art project on my blog?? Would love it if you would participate.. the details are on my blog here, I’m trying to get more crafters and DIYers using my handpainted fabrics, let me know if it’s something u’d like to do!

I love my tall ceilings! They make everything feel more open and free!
This is very cute! I have loved seeing each of the adorable projects you ladies have created. Something I love about my home….our living room has lots of natural light that comes in through the French doors. I love sitting there during the day, soaking up the sunlight.
I love the four giant, floor to ceiling windows in my living room. I live in Northern Cali and we get more fog than sun, but on those sunny days the living room gets nice and warm.
You so so inspire me, I made this!

oh my, this is the MOST precious thing i have ever seen…. i need a handful of quirky housed hoops <3
we just moved to San Diego and we LOVE our apartment & location. it's the perfect size for us and has gorgeous hardwood floors that we totally weren't expecting. i think what i love most is making it our home — decorating outside of our usual "decor box" and using more handmade items!
My favorite thing about my house is our family portraits above our mantle. All the pics of my cute toddler and hubby make me GRIN! The photos also inadvertently sport a yellow-aqua-black color scheme, which I like. :D
Oh, and that is a stinkin’ cute house. Thanks for the chance to win!
my favorite part of my home is the yard! we terraced it three years ago, to give us a place for the kids to play, complete with a huge board swing hung from a tree. our three older kids pile on it and go twirling!
My screened-in front porch! It is just the best. And when winter is over and spring arrives each year, I dig out my box-o-stuff marked “porch stuff” and happily unwrap each item to decorate with again. Love the windchimes, the votive lights, the handmade beaded peace sign, dragonfly candle holder and silver hooks for hanging flowers to dry. Nothing is better than relaxing there with my hubby and 4 yr. old daughter on our recycled, found FREE on the curb wicker chairs. Gosh, a little spray paint and new cushions go such a long way! Yay! Love springtime! Hi Gussy, from just over here in Hudson, WI! ;) Cute, cute, cute little house you made!
Your hoop is adorable! I would say my daughters room is my favorite. She is upstairs and has a great view of the river out of her window. Sometimes I just open the window and sit and look out.
I love all the little moments I get to experience with my 2 year old son.
I love that we have old couches- so if the kids paint and get it on the couch- no big deal.
i love my little home b/c if it was any bigger, it’d never be clean!
I love that our home is large enough to host all the family gatherings and roomy enough for our 6 grandchildren to visit all at once. We made hoop type projects way back in the 80’s it is so sweet to see them show up again and yours is so springy. Love it!
This is super cute! I think our back ‘porch’ is my favorite spot – I like to sit outside in the warm weather with my husband as he grills some delicious food! We love the spring :)
I just love this hoop! too cute!
my fave part of my home is my kitchen! it’s the biggest kitchen I’ve had to date and I enjoy every square inch of it while I’m baking!
this would look so cute hanging in my daughter’s room!!! LOVE it!
Love this! My fav thing at home is my Anthro letters on my mantle that spell out LOVE.
My favorite part of my home are my photos of my grandkids.
After that it would be my antique wagon that I put my collections of teddy bears in. THis time of year there are bunnies in it.
Love that hoop art is coming back.
Love yours.
Cuuute!!!!
I love everything about it since its the first place we’ve owned! Even the things I hate, I love because its MINE.
