I snagged this colorful floral rug {on clearance, even} from Target yesterday. I’ve been wanting something for this corner in our living room and yesterday was THE DAY. I love this spot even more now :] And so does Bauer — he thinks every rug in our house was bought just for him. Whenever I need to find him I check the half dozen rugs that dot our house.
Part of why I went to Target was to pick up some cleaning supplies {but really, do I need an excuse?!}. Suddenly we were out of the essentials, and suddenly the whole house was yuck-o dirty. This week is going to be very busy, and I’m the most productive when our house is clean. Not to be confused with messy — which is different. I can handle a lived-in/messy house, but since I have assistants that come over nearly daily… I don’t think I need to say anything else… :]
Call me crazy, but I like to clean our house. If I think about how much work it really is, it can overwhelm me, so instead I focus on how I like to put things back where they belong, how I like to re-arrange and make new groupings of pretties, and how I like the instant satisfaction cleaning brings.
Our floors are shiny again, more color has been added {bye-bye all the red/white/green we used for Christmas}, and Bauer has a few new toys to play with. ♥
One goal I wanted to accomplish with my cleaning was to find a new place to set Bauer’s crate. We had it in our bedroom next to our dresser, but since he doesn’t sleep in it at night anymore it was time to move it out. One thing I can’t stand is piles & piles of stuff, or things lined up, row after row… But that’s all I saw when I looked into our bedroom. So I fixed it :]
You can see into our bedroom from the living room — we have a normal door on one bedroom wall and a gorgeous 6′ pocket door on another bedroom wall {this door opens to the living room.} I moved some things around, put some things away — or in different rooms, and I’m super happy now with how it looks. Now the focus is on the gorgeous built-ins, the stained glass, the pretty floors.
And as a bonus, it’s been in the 30’s/40’s here in Minneapolis, which I’m LOVING! I know it won’t last, but it’s a refreshing change.

I need to clean out closets and donate things I dont need!
I would love to change my bedroom, we moved in last year and I broke my back so I had to recover from surgery so my bedroom never got finsihed. And as I have gotten better I did my 2 year olds room… and now my 4 year olds room… so my bedroom {and bathroom} will have to wait. But I love your place, so welcoming!
I have the same rug!!!
Awesome find! Love the rug, it goes perfect with that chair! I can’t wait till we get Target in Canada…I heard they bought out Zellers so hopefully in the near future!
…and there goes all your extra money ;]
We moved into our house in October, and we still have the standard paint color (we got to pick one color for the builders to paint) on our walls. I would really like to spend some time adding color with paint throughout the house this spring/summer!
Painting scares me. I’m terrible at picking out the color — it’s always so different from what I see in my head. What colors are you thinking?
Ashley,
I’ve been in my house for 10 years and I am still painting. I still have builders white in a few rooms. Gussy, find a friend that is good with colors. My girlfriend is great. I tell her what color I want, I pick up a million swatches and she tells me which ones and where. My kitchen has 5 colors. Sounds like a hot mess, but it’s not. 3 shades of brown a dark burnt red underneath a set of cabinets & a dark rusty orange.
I let her tell my husband how many colors. He took it better from her than me. I was also worried about my oak cabinets being too dark with the browns, but my friend told me the dark colors would lighten my cabinets & it did. LOVE IT!
me? kinda getting sick of the tires ;)
LOVE the floral rug and the blue chair. Like seriously love. And the milk glass vases, swoon!
I will doing a total overhaul of almost everything in my home next month. I am excited to make new curtains for the living room and change the whole look. And Gussy, you’ll love this . . . I’m going to make a shower curtain. A RUFFLE shower curtain!! I saw a tutorial recently on how to make ruffled curtains and I am going to make one as a shower curtain. I am so excited.
WHAT?! a ruffle shower curtain? show me!!!
I would love to have a bigger, more organized closet. I spend forever cleaning my room, and then it’s covered in clothes again! Currently I have clean clothes on the back of my char, in a basket on the floor, and a pile of dirty clothes waiting to be put in the washing machine. I always drool over those pictures of the big closets with tons of drawer space and little shelves for all of the shoes…sigh, one day! ;]
I once had a closet like that — roller drawers and everything. But then Zack and I got married/moved away… hehe ;]
I would love to change our living room… but can’t there is nothing I can do to make it better! Unless we find a new one. This one is so awkwardly shaped and it has only ONE wall without a window or door on it, plus we have a corner fireplace and that just makes it hard to arrange furniture. I hate my living room but until we can afford to move I will be stuck with it!
Your house is great! I love that floral rug… I have been eyeing it for months at Target! It looks great with that Blue chair. Love it!
I KNOW, right! Our living room is the same way, except we have ZERO walls with nothing on them. Oh well… the rest of the house is amazing… so I try not to focus on it’s flaws ;]
The trim, which we are in the middle of changing (hooray!). No more 70s weird ol’ brown. Classy, tall, and white instead!
Our nasty out of date bathroom! The husband ripped up the floor yesterday…can’t wait until it is finished : )
The kitchen cabinets, cabinet pulls, etc., but first a good spring cleaning to make sure that yucky flu bug has exited the residence!
It was in the upper 50’s here today. Almost springlike.
I want to change my bedroom. It’s the only room that doesn’t feel pulled together.
We’re going to be doing a little house reorganizing in order to make room for the newest member of our family…arriving in October!
In March my sewing picked up after starting a FB fan page. I was in the large media room above the garage, which was my DH domain. Sewing evolved and fabric was everywhere. I would try to clean and organize but I didn’t have storage or anything.
DH built me a room in the basement and had it professionally done because he realized he doesn’t have much time and he needed to reclaim his space.
So I moved into my 10×11 room in the basement THIS PAST WEEK. I love it!!!! It’s clean & organized! YIPPEE!

Gussy love your windows & I enjoy the “glimpses” of you house!
I’d settle for getting it all clean! And I’m working on redoing our living room, but I’m stuck until I pick the wall colors. I’m thinking white…is that crazy???
Love your new rug,it’s perfect for your home, your the best little homemaker ever, hand picked by God for sure (for Z). Your home is so welcoming, wish I were there!
I have the same rug under our dining room table and a small one in front of our kitchen sink. I love it! :)
I love pre-spring cleaning!!!!! Your house looks so beautiful!! I love that new rug!! and your little puppy is soooooo adorable!!! xoxo
