“Small things for a prettier life.”
On Saturday, my friend Elle and her daughter Olive picked me up and we went on a little Minneapolis adventure. Olive spent the first few minutes asking where Bauer was and why he couldn’t come with. Then she told me he was sad I left him at home. She’s so cute! :] Olive also calls Bauer “Bauer-t” — which I think is darling and I now want to re-name him Bauer-t.
Elle took me to a few places that I’ve never been to, but first we stopped for coffee at Wilde Roast. They had such a great atmosphere… The main seating area looked like a living room with their grand fire place and couches and little tables placed oh-so carefully throughout. I wish I had taken some pics, but I didn’t want to be “that girl” with her phone, so I held back…
Then we trekked on to i like you, this AMAZING handmade gift shop [501 – 1st Ave. NE, Minneapolis]. I want to go back already :]
I found a super cute journal and it’s going to be my “Gussy idea book”. Yay! There are pretty flowers in the corner of each page and the pages alternate between blank & grid. It’s the perfect size to carry around, and also colorful enough that it stands out on my white desk.
Christmas decorations danced around the store. Faux grass takes the place of traditional flooring, and kiddies run around, playing with all the fun and magical gifts. i like you is my new dream gift shop. Inside I saw ~
* wooden MN ornaments
* rosette rings
* zipped pouches
* ornaments
* clothing for guys & gals
* stationary
* aprons
* art
Guess what else I saw?! [in the “not for the public” area *wink* ] An awesome work room in the back {this is where I faint from love-at-first-sight}! There was SO MUCH craft going on. Work tables and thread and fabric and dress forms and bins and glue, and and and.
We left i like you and I was feeling sooooo inspired.
Our next stop was kind of by accident. We were leaving i like you and Elle saw City Salvage, Architectural Salvage & Antiques [found at 507 – 1st Ave NE, Minneapolis], next door. She had never been so we walked inside :]
You know I asked if they had any vintage sewing machines lying around. They had 2, but they were only the shells of the machine. Sad! After writing this post I now need a sewing machine collection of my own. Hah!
I wish each little collection of vintage-ness had a card telling the store about where it came from. We saw lots of wood furniture — gorgeous wood furniture. Glass cases filled with pretty glass door knobs. Ornaments, books, little dressers/end tables…
It was a happy day. :]
wow!!! these are some awesome shops!! makes me want to open up a crafty shop/boutique one day!!!
I had a wonderful time too, lovely girl. Next stop: Hunt & Gather (though we’ll have to have some Bauer love time first!).
oooh for fun!! I will have to check to check them out sometime……………i hope:)
thank you for posting this! i have been trying to find that store for years. haha i heard about it a long time ago, then forgot the name but thought i still remembered the area it was located. this summer, i dragged joe around the neighborhood (on foot) trying to find it and we never did. i think he thought i was crazy, because i didn’t even know the name of the store. haha
I am so jealous of your finds!
All of the places I’ve found so far in New Orleans are too expensive and completely out of reach. My husband has an antique steel fan like that one on the back porch, except it is 6 ft. tall, and we won’t turn it on bc we’re afraid it will chop someone’s fingers off. :/
Every time I walk into I like you, I wonder if there will be a Gussy find…your ruffles would fit in perfectly well :) It’s like eye candy in every corner! i {heart} it so much.
Oh, I so miss shops like that! We had a beautiful one in Charleston but here in Connecticut there isn’t really a “downtown” where such an eclectic and exciting shop would thrive. For now I’ll just be jealous of yours!
I stopped at I Like You’s stand at the (MN) State Fair. Their stuff was so cute, I loved it. Glad you were able to go on a little Minnesota adventure, they are the best & the downtown area is so fun!
wowza! makes me want to move to minneapolis:)gina
wowza…amazing!! :)
i like you is a TREASURE. I wend to one of their trunk shows last spring and fell in love with it!
what a wonderful day you had! i so wish we had an architectural salvage place around here – i see such cool projects on hgtv with all their finds!!
What a fun shop… I love that part of town, I’ve driven by that shop, but haven’t been able to stop… YET! I will be checking it out soon. ;) thanks for sharing!
I’ll be checking out that neighborhood for some new fun stuff. Also, stop in at Architectural Antiques, another salvage shop up in Northeast. Really interesting. You’ll quite like Hunt & Gather, which is in my neck of the woods. They appeal to me for all different kinds of vintage items, from different eras or places or collectible ideas.
i like you seems adorable!! it faintly reminds me of anthropologie, on a more personal and intimate scale!
I have the same journal…and carry it around for the same reason!!!!
“I like you” seems amazing! I could just see spending too much of my paycheck in there!
Oh, and I purchased a Much Ado About You planner that shipped yesterday. I can’t wait for it to get here! Thanks for featuring them on your blog :)
There must be alot more snow falling up at the saitton than there is down at Highland & Westmount in Kitchener.Last year there was no place to put the snow anymore and I vowed to buy a snow blower for the next winter. So far, this winter I used it twice and the rest has been dealt with a shovel.This winter doesn’t seem as bad as last.
