I remember, back when I was 6 or 7 or 8 years old, the evening we got our family dog. It was summer time and all I wanted to do was stay home and play outside. My dad kept trying to get me and my older brother to go for a ride in the truck, but I was adamant on staying home and playing.
{Maybe if he bribed me with ice-cream…?}
He finally got us both in & buckled up — I’m sure I gave him a sassy look first — so away we went…
We pulled up to a farm {the puppies were living in a chicken coop} and there was our soon-to-be family dog. She was a mutt, a mix between Husky, Golden Retriever and Beagle. She was sooooo cute and little. We named her Sonny.
After we picked out Sonny we drove to my mom’s work so she could meet Sonny.
My mom was working a few hours each evening so she could be home with us during the day while my dad was at work. I remember getting out of the truck with this cute puppy and handed her over to my mom, who had on a business outfit — I remember she was wearing a skirt. I think it was Navy blue ;]
A few years had passed… I remember some nights my brother and I would sneak downstairs and bring Sonny up to our rooms. We usually got caught — dad got up really early for work and often found an empty crate downstairs ;]
Whoops.
On winter nights we’d sit in front of the heat vent and feed her treats late at night, ha ha! {Kids do such silly things.} Sonny was such a fun dog. We trained her to do all sorts of trips {my favorites were “roll over”, “crawl” and “shake”}.
We had Sonny for a long, long time before she got sick and we had to put her to sleep. But I believe all doggies go to heaven, so I’ll be able to give her a kiss on the head again :]

I can’t even tell you how much I love these memories. We already had the dog before we brought home the baby, but I’m so glad he’s only 4 so they’ll have LOTS of time to spend together and my son will remember most of it. They love each other SO SO SO much.
I just noticed your domain isn’t Maggie Whitley any more! I love the new one though!
