Emily from Anderson Family Crew is my pal! She lives in Florida with her husband & darling children, plus she has awesome hair, a gorgeous smile, is super fun and of course blogs about all of this! :] Her blog is one of my favorite go-to’s when I want to be inspired.
Em isn’t on Twitter — she says it’s too complicated. But you’ll love her anyway, right? ;]
Drink Umbrellas — a craft.
Well hello there, Gussy fans. I was honored to be asked to help Gussy out while she is on her {much needed} vacation. Not only was I honored, but a slight twinge of jealousy hit me as well, when she spoke of her vacation. I mean, come on. I need a vacation. With 4 small kids, even a “vacation” is not really a vacation. But alas, this is our life, and I embrace it — the best way I know how: With lots of love… and lots of sarcasm.
This summer is unique to us, because it’s the first real summer we’ve had. My oldest just finished his first year of kindergarten, so it really is the first time that summer isn’t just like any other day of the year. The first week of having my oldest home was bliss. By the second week, I had already pulled most of my hair out.
So, in hopes of keeping what remaining hair I had, I established a weekly summer theme, to help get us through the remaining dog days of summer. Our theme this week is “summer” {fitting, I know}.
Fun things this week include: playing in the slip-n-slide… making ice cream… talking about how ridiculously hot it is {we live in Florida, people}… eating lots of delicious summer berries… and a few fun, summery crafts. One of which is this: drink umbrellas. No summer drink is complete without a drink umbrella.
Here is a quick and easy tutorial, so that you can enjoy these Drink Umbrella babies, too.
First up: supplies.
You need a few of your favorite scrapbooking papers, soup can {or any other circle to trace with}, toothpicks or skewers, hot glue gun, scissors {plain and scalloped} and a pencil.
You also need a cute helper:
So the first thing you’re gonna do is trace circles onto your paper:
Afterward, cut the circles out — on this particular one, I used scalloped scissors for a fun edge. After you’ve cut your circle out, cut a small piece out {like you’re cutting a slice of pie out}:
Get your hot glue gun ready, and glue the circle together, by overlapping a small edge of it:
Dab a little bit of hot glue in the center, on the inside, and hold your skewer or toothpick in place, till dry:
and voila:
A little fun to add to your dinner table:
At this point, one of my other cute little people had joined in on the fun, too:
So, there ya have it. The worlds’ easiest craft.
Head on over to my blog, to learn more about our crew. In a recent banquet event that Mr. Anderson and I attended, I was given the award for “most likely to blog about her children’s bathroom habits”… So, if that kind of thing interests you, then stay awhile. Ha.
I do blog about other things, too…
Love Em. Love you. Love this craft.
Thanks for sharing Ladies.
xoxo
Amy

Will definitely try the crafty umbrellas, though! They could be used for all sorts of themed events, too! Red and green scrapbook paper for Christmas, pink hearts for Valentine’s Day, etc. Yay for a new craft! Thanks Emily!
How easy and lovely! Very summery:) I’ll be sharing this with my readers.
I made my own drink umbrellas a couple of years ago…totally forgot about them until I saw this post…wonderful. Thanks for sharing, now I need to go check out more of your fabulous blog!
Oh My Gosh! I came over from Freckled Nest, and am so glad I came today and found this post. What fun!!!! I am in dire need of a vacation also, maybe I’ll make these fun drink umbrella’s and have one at home next week on my day off.
I came over from Freckled Nest as well, even though I’ve been following you for a while already… Always nice to see your name and work pop up in different places in the web, makes me feel like I am good at recognizing talent ;)
