When Zack and I got married we lived in city A. Our first apartment had a HUGE walk-in closet {hello, love}, a vaulted ceiling in the living room, and a cute washer & dryer tucked behind the kitchen area.
We loved that apartment for so many reasons, mainly because it was our first home as man & wife. Our first home also housed this little couch, this little brown-ish couch that my parents used when they were first married:
We brought this little brown couch to a house we lived in in city B. We brought it, not because of the color, but because of the solidity of it, the wide armrests, and the history it holds.
A few months into living in city B, Zack’s mom and grandma came for the weekend to recover it. Together we worked some magic…
And, look at it now:
Pure gloriousness.
Sigh, and now this couch sits in our apartment in city C.
We thought we loved this couch when we were first married. But now… now we love it a whole lot more because:
My parents bought it for about $25 when they were first married, we love it because it is the couch we’ve used since we were first married, and we love it because Zack’s family has sewn their history to it.
Mainly I love it because I can lay on it perfectly with just a teeny tiny bit of my legs on the armrest, whereas Zack’s entire leg hangs over… ;]
Oh, we’re not talking about me? OK…
Did you see that teal chair? That’s from Zack’s mom. Did you see that blue-gray antique clock on the front table? That’s from my mom. We love our apartment and all the special things that it holds.
What’s special in your home that keeps your family memories?
Part II coming soon…
I love your couch, the history and the hands that have helped make it what it is today.
My kitchen table and chairs are from my parents and are the table and chairs I sat at as a little girl eating meals with my family. It’s worn, dented, stained, sticky, and totally imperfect but it has so many stories to tell, I can’t bear to change it yet.
It’s a beautiful story – the history of your couch. One stitched with love and family and the best kind to tell.
We have a china hutch that was passed down to us by Hubby’s parents. It was originally his grandmother’s. The glass isn’t as clear as it once was, the doors like to stick and the drawer screeches horribly when pulled out. But I love thinking of the homes it’s been in and the treasures it’s held. I hope it lasts for a long time.
I love, love, love that red couch! It looks so happy in your living room!
Love the sofa story! :) The only thing that I have from my parent’s home in ours is a beautiful antique dresser that my mom told me I couldn’t have, but then she gave in when it was really time for me to move across the country. :) I love it, and get compliments on it often!
I love your new and improved red couch! It’s so cute :-) And the teal chair is amazing! I’d love to have something like that! Your living room looks so inviting!
What a cozy home you have and I absolutely adore all of the “family” history, treasures, and special touches that make your home full of love and so unique.
